Wildcats Winter Sports Update (Jan. 15, 2026)

The Warwick Valley varsity cheerleaders finished second at the Rally in the Valley Cheer Competition at Minisink Valley High School on Jan. 10. The competition was the first of the season for the Wildcats.

 

Warwick is hosting the annual Battle of the Bows cheerleading competition in the high school gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 17. The event features nearly 50 teams, including youth recreation, all-star, modified, junior varsity and varsity programs. The AM Rec/All-Star session will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the PM Middle School/High School division session starting at 12:45 p.m.

"Battle of the Bows is a full-day event that celebrates school spirit, teamwork, and the growth of cheerleading across all levels," cheerleading coach Elizabeth Sullivan said. "It brings together programs from throughout the region to showcase their hard work, sportsmanship, and love for the sport in a positive and supportive environment. It’s a special day for our program and our community, and we’re proud to continue the tradition of Battle of the Bows."


Girls basketball

Emily Romig scored 26 points to power Warwick past Valley Central 55-32 on Jan. 12. Reese Girardi had 12 points for the Wildcats. The victory brings the Wildcats season record to 6-1-0 and extends their current winning streak to five games.

Romig also had 15 points in a 62-24 victory over Monticello on Jan. 9. Abby Horowitz scored 11 points and Girardi added 10.

The Wildcats host Middletown on Thursday, Jan. 15, at 6:30 p.m.
 


Boys basketball

Quenten Liciaga and Emani Sahmanovic each scored 20 points and Jake Cosco had19 for Warwick in a 74-41 victory over John S. Burke Catholic on Jan. 9. Liciaga also had 19 points in a 67-44 win against Monticello.


Boys swimming and diving

Drew Voloshin, Lucas Wensley and Rory Wright finished 1-2-3 in diving to help Warwick defeated Goshen 107-78 in a boys swimming and diving meet on Jan. 13.

Yahia Moustafa won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.86 seconds and also place first in the100-yard freestyle (58.37)

 


Boys skiing

Logan Rivelli and Dylan Bess finished sixth and seventh to help Warwick to victories over Monroe-Woodbury, Goshen and Cornwall in a giant slalom race at Mount Peter on Jan. 13.


Girls skiing

Ava Fanos, Emma Fontaine and Nyah Knieriemen placed third through fifth in a giant slalom competition against Cornwall, Monroe-Woodbury, Goshen, James I. O'Neill and John S. Burke Catholic at Mount Peter on Jan. 13.

Cornwall's Lorelie Mariani and Hailey Bentley took first and second to lead the Dragons to a first-place finish. Warwick was second.


Fall Sports Honors

Leo Shostal of Warwick was named the top sophomore boys cross country runner in the state by the website New York MileSplit.

Shostal won the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association and Section 9 Class A championships. He set a personal best of 15:23.90 over 5,000 meters (3.1 miles) to finish seventh at the state Class A meet and ended the season by placing 17th at the state Federation meet
