Community Message: Updated traffic patterns for WVMS & WVHS dismissal

COMMUNITY MESSAGE FROM WARWICK VALLEY CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT

Updated Traffic Patterns: Middle & High School Dismissal

Dear Families,

While we continue to strongly encourage students to take advantage of the universal busing provided, we recognize that there are times when families need to pick up their children during regular dismissal. This time of day is particularly challenging, as we manage the dismissal of approximately 2,500 students from the Middle and High School campus.

Following a recent review with the Warwick Police Department, these adjustments to traffic patterns will take effect immediately during dismissal. The changes are intended to improve safety and bring greater order to what is, understandably, the most congested part of the school day.

High School Exit (Sanfordville Road)

  • From 2:00–3:00 PM, all vehicles exiting the High School lot must turn left only onto Sanfordville Road.

Middle School / District Office Exit (West Street)

  • From 2:00–3:00 PM, all vehicles exiting must turn right only onto West Street.
  • Left turns exiting the middle school or district office are not permitted during dismissal.

Important reminders:

  • Parking or student pickup is not permitted in the Middle School/District Office lot, the St. Stephen’s Church lot, or nearby roadways. All pickups must occur at the front of the school, with vehicles joining the established pickup line.
  • Signage will be installed to clearly guide traffic flow.
  • Students attending CCD at St. Stephen’s Church, as well as student walkers, will be held briefly in the Middle School and released together once buses have exited. CCD students and walkers will be gathered and escorted across the street. Middle School students are strongly discouraged from walking along West Street due to the lack of sidewalks.
  • The Warwick Police Department will be on site to assist with traffic management and support these procedures.

We know dismissal is a routine families rely on, and any change takes a little time to settle in. These adjustments are grounded in safety and based on what we are seeing each afternoon.

Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation.

Sincerely,
Warwick Valley Central School District
